Awards 2009

The Outstanding Educator Award recognizes outstanding
achievement and excellence in classroom service to students
with behavior disorders. Sandy Smith, USD
231, Gardner-Edgerton, Kansas, was the 2009 recipient
of the Outstanding Educator Award. Ms. Smith was presented
her award by Kaye Otten.

The Outstanding Leadership Award
recognizes outstanding service and leadership to the field
of behavioral disorders on a national level. Michael
Bullis, University of Oregon, was the 2009 recipient
of the Outstanding Leadership Award. Dr. Bullis was presented
his award by Antonis Katisyannis.

The Building Bridges: Seeds for Program Development Grant
is given to support activities and programs to improve educational
programs for student with behavioral disorders. The 2009
Building Bridges Grant was presented to Tara Cullen,
Turner High School, Kansas City, KS. Ms. Cullen was presented
her award by Rich Simpson.

This year two
Doctoral Stipend Awards were presented. Terri Sutherland
Collins, Clemson University, was presented her award
by Antonis Katisyannis. Blake D. Hansen, University
of Kansas, was presented his award by Howard Willis.

The MSLBD Awards Dinner was held on February 26, 2009, with
entertainment by the Indian Woods Junior High School
Jazz Band, Shawnee Mission Public Schools, Shawnee
Mission, KS.
