In Memoriam

William C. RhodesIn Memory of William C. Rhodes

A true pioneer in the education of children and youth with emotional and/ behavioral disorders recently passed away. In 1965, Dr. Rhodes, Dr. Nichols Hobbs, and others on Project Re-ED to develop schools emphasizing an ecological approach to teaching, learning, skill-building, and addressing social system variables. Dr. Rhodes also directed the Conceptual Models Project which led to A Study of Child Variance consisting of four volumes: theories, interventions, service delivery systems, and predictions of future conceptual models and interventions regarding programming for children with EBD in the 1970's. MSLBD remembers and honors Dr. Rhodes as one of the first speakers at the Symposium in 1983. Thank you for your contributions to our field.

The Council for Exceptional Children announced on April 6, 2011 that legislation providing guidance and accountability for the use of restraint and seclusion in schools was reintroduce in the House of Representatives. Check the CEC Policy Insider Blog for updates.
