Top Ten Reasons Why Principals Don't Support Teachers
of Students with EBD

Authors- Tom Thompson & Jane Rhys

1. That teacher is trained to do his/her job, I am not.

2. He/she only has ten students, why can't he/she control them?

3. I'm too busy with lunch count and staff meetings.

4. I wasn't hired to work with those kids.

5. He/she has a para, they can help the teacher.

6. These kids are not my kids - they come from other schools.

7. These kids take too much time, I need to spend my time with kids who will graduate, make something of themselves.

8. These kids are too messed up - they don't belong in public school - I can't help them here.

9. That's why we have a director of special ed, they are supposed to help the teacher.

10. Schools are too soft on these kids. With a little discipline, suspension/expulsion like other kids, they would have to behave.
