Who Are We?

Vision Statement

Sue Limber Workshop 2004The MSLBD organization which will be known in all of its various activities during the next five years for:

  • Serving as a catalyst and facilitator for creative/cutting edge ideas in the field by:
    — stimulating thinking and research to move the field of EBD forward
    — taking risks to learn about and present new ideas
    — learning about and embracing ideas from other disciplines
    — finding resources for and stimulating new local and national initiatives

  • Serving as a support network for professionals who work with children and youth with EBD (or who have behavioral challenges) by:
    — providing opportunities for professional development
    — mentoring professionals and practitioners which might include-
    — providing technical support/ learning opportunities for new teachers
    — providing opportunities for teachers and other professionals to come together

  • Serving as a repository of expertise in the field related to the education and treatment of children and youth with behavioral challenges:
    — creating and organizing a group of well informed professionals
    — serving as an expert group for state Departments of Education, school district and other agencies and programs who serve students with EBD or who have behavioral needs.
    — providing opportunities to access information through its conferences, website and other activities

  • Providing leadership and advocacy for children while maintaining integrity, respect, and caring by:
    — honoring the past; being aware of our roots
    — acknowledging and supporting leaders at all levels regardless of professional position for their efforts on behalf of children
    — demonstrating these values in all our activities
    — demonstrating these values in interactions within the organization
    — discouraging arrogance, short sightedness and self-aggrandizement
