Volunteers and Staff
Except for one part time position, all participation
on the planning committee and all of the work related to the
planning and operation of the conference and other MSLBD activities
has been strictly voluntary and unpaid throughout its history.
Planning committee members and some volunteers have received
complimentary Symposium registration but no other benefits from
participation.
Student
Volunteers are often needed during the Symposium in February.
Tasks include hosting and monitoring sessions, distributing
and gathering evaluations, checking on audiovisual equipment,
handing out registration packets and other tasks. Volunteers
must provide at least one half day of volunteer service during
the Symposium (Thursday AM or PM, Friday AM or PM, or Saturday
AM) and will be assigned to needed tasks. Volunteers must be
enrolled in at least 6 hours of coursework and must have approval
from their academic advisor. The name and email address of their
advisor must be submitted with their registration. All volunteers
must send in a completed registration form (noted on the form
that they are a Student Volunteer) and must include a check
for registration. The check will be held and will be returned
at the Symposium following completion of their volunteer duties.
This opportunity provides excellent professional
development for the volunteers. Volunteers meet individuals
who are leaders in the field, practitioners who have valuable
experiences and knowledge to share, and people whose work they
may have studied or will study.
